Disjunctive (tonic) pronouns


The disjunctive or tonic pronouns (moi, toi, lui / elle / soi; nous, vous, eux / elles) are primarily used in five instances:

Note that lui and eux can stand alone as subjects: 2. In compound subjects: 3. As the object of a preposition, or of the negatives "ni..." or "ne... que": 4. With -même, indicating "oneself": 5.
